Founded in 1944 by Bishop Emmet Walsh, the parish was established to care for Catholics in the area west of the Ashley. Monsignor John J. McCarthy served as the first pastor. The parish initially used the St. Andrew’s Exchange Club building for Masses and religious instruction. In May 1945, ground was broken for a temporary church building, which is now the Parish Hall, and a rectory, now the Church offices. Construction of the current church began on June 1, 1962, and it was dedicated on May 13, 1965. The school opened in September 1948 under the leadership of the Sisters of Saints Cyril and Methodius. Over the years, ten SSCM principals and dedicated staff have maintained a tradition of excellence. The school has been renovated to provide modern Catholic education, with recent additions including the early childhood center and the technology and arts wing.
