S C Timber Producers Association is a woodworker and timber industry association in Lexington, SC. It is a non-profit 501(c)(6) independent association dedicated to representing and servicing the state's professional timber harvesters, along with timber dealer and timber trucker members. Associate supporting members include businesses involved in the utilization, manufacture and sale of timber products, private timberland owners, professional foresters, and businesses serving members such as equipment dealers, insurance agencies, tire dealers, and truck and trailer dealers. SCTPA has pursued its own agenda for the timber harvesting segment since January 1, 1999, following a reorganization from its previous identity as the Palmetto Timber Association. The association provides endorsed property and casualty insurance and risk management programs through Swamp Fox Agency, LLC of Moncks Corner, SC, and endorsed workers compensation and employer's liability insurance through Forestry Mutual Insurance Company of Raleigh, North Carolina. Member benefits include a Baldwin filter program with a 45 percent member discount, a Michelin and B.F. Goodrich tire program, a truck rebate program on specified Peterbilt, International and Western Star models, a 15 percent discount on Samsara GPS and onboard cameras, and access to a timber hauling online platform. SCTPA endorses Southern Loggers Cooperative, which operates three fuel depots in SC, in Allendale, Georgetown and Orangeburg. It publishes the Timber Talk newsletter and magazine quarterly and offers education and training classes for loggers, including Timber Operations Professional and SFI training, truck driver and trucking regulations courses. SCTPA was instrumental in the passage of the increased GVW 15 percent tolerance for trucking unprocessed forest products, raising GVW to 84,272 pounds on non-interstate highways, along with a strobe light law for longwood loads, both effective May 21, 2008. It is a charter member of the American Loggers Council and the Wood Supply Research Institute, and has adopted the Professional Logger Code of Practices as its charter code.
The association is located on Carola Lane in Lexington, about half a mile from Twelvemile Creek and roughly half a mile from Augusta Road, which also runs nearby as a highway about seven tenths of a mile away. Golden Hills Golf & Country Club is about eight tenths of a mile from the location, and the Lexington County Public Library is about 1.3 miles away.
SCTPA serves as the voice for timber harvesting and allied timber businesses, advancing members' ability to harvest, produce and transport timber through continuing education, legislative representation in Columbia and Washington, and advocacy for sustainable forestry practices.
