Davesté Vineyards is owned and operated by Dave and Esté DeFehr. In 2004, they set out to create the first winery in Iredell County, purchasing a 60-acre pastoral site in Troutman, North Carolina and planting their first vines. The first harvest in 2007 became Davesté's first wine. The tasting room and art gallery opened in 2008, and an outdoor pavilion was added in 2012. The original winery reached capacity in 2020 and was replaced by a new facility in 2022. Winemaker Meg Tipton, who developed her craft while traveling to several of the world's wine regions, leads production. Wine bottles feature original work by established North Carolina artists working in watercolor, pastel, oils, acrylics, and collage, following the artistic methodology begun by founder and artist Estèr DeFehr. The winery has earned numerous awards, including the North Carolina double gold medal reserved for the best wines in the state, and operates as part of a state that ranks seventh among US wine-producing regions. The property also hosts a wine club and newsletter for regular patrons.
