At CJJA, technique and fluidity are prioritized over strength, speed, and aggression. Instructors are dedicated students of Jiu-Jitsu's techniques and concepts, and rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, students are equipped with core grappling skills while developing a style that suits their body and personality. Jiu-Jitsu and Submission Grappling are taught as both martial arts and sports, emphasizing grappling and submissions, and described as among the most effective styles for self-defense while also helping with fitness and weight loss. A typical class includes technique, drills, and live sparring while learning to defend against larger opponents, building agility, flexibility, and stamina along the way.

The school is unaffiliated, and its stated aim is to be a friendly, clean, safe, family-focused, and no-nonsense gym. New students can try a full week of classes free of charge, attending any and all classes for their age group.

The academy sits on Chartwell Center Drive, about 0.2 miles from I-77 South, the I-77 Express Lanes, West Catawba Avenue, and McDowell Creek. Statesville Road is roughly 0.3 miles away, as is the Cornelius Park and Ride.

With a 5.00 rating from its reviewers, Cornelius Jiu-Jitsu Academy pairs its Gi, No-Gi, and Wrestling instruction with a free week for newcomers, giving Cornelius residents a straightforward way to step onto the mats for the first time.
