The clinic was founded in March 2003 by Dr. Mathew M. Cannava, a board certified dermatologist and lifelong Alaskan whose family has resided in Soldotna since 1972. After graduating from Soldotna High School, Dr. Cannava earned his undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences from the University of California at Davis and his Doctor of Medicine from the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He completed his internship at Michigan State University and his dermatology residency at Wright State University, with additional specialized training in dermatology from the University of Washington, the University of Wisconsin, and Case Western Reserve University. He is the only physician in Alaska performing Mohs surgery to have received formal training as a Mohs surgery fellow, having spent five months in Billings, Montana performing complicated skin cancer surgeries and facial reconstructions. Dr. Cannava is board certified by the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons, is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, and is a member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. He works alongside staff members Keri, Trevor, Koral, and Courtney.

The clinic sits on East Beluga Avenue in Soldotna, on the corner of Birch Street and East Beluga Avenue, just down the road from Soldotna City Hall, serving patients from Soldotna, Kenai, and across the Kenai Peninsula with the standard of care found at major university medical centers.
