The original store was built in the early 1900s and was moved across the street in 1943 after a fire destroyed the first building. It historically served coal miners and their families with produce, food, clothing, toys, tools, and dynamite. The store also functioned as a social hall and inn. In 1965, it was leased to the Pocahontas Coal Company. The current building retains its original structure and interior design, featuring a painted tin ceiling, two original walk-in freezers, and three walk-in safes.
