Sciortino and his wife Grace established it; the aroma of fresh baked breads, rolls and cookies has filled the neighborhood since then. In 1997 Peter and Grace sold the bakery to three employees, Maria, Joe and Luigi Vella, who had worked there as teenagers and learned the business from the bottom up. The Vellas have introduced many new types of cookies and expanded the bread and roll line. Much of the traditional bread, rolls, cookies and pastries can still be found around the city at Sendiks, Piggly Wiggly and Sentry stores and at local restaurants. The bakery ships its cookies and breads anywhere in the United States. Store hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 7am to 4pm and Sunday from 7am to 1pm, closed Monday, with holiday hours posted through the year.
