The alley was built in 1946 by Dave and Evelyn Ritger and operated as a family business with their four sons, Dick, Robert (Bobby), Dave Jr. (Butch), and John. Bobby and his wife Judy purchased the business in 1964 and ran it until 1983, when they sold it to their son Jeff and Bobby's brother John. In January of 2019, Jeff passed away, and on January 12, 2022, after 75 years in the Ritger family, John sold Dave's Lanes to its current owners, Mike Krusing and Dan Quill. Both grew up in the Hubertus area, attended Hartford Union High School, and bowled in various leagues at Dave's Lanes for 25 years before taking ownership.
The alley's location on N. Main Street places it within a short walk of the Rubicon River, the Hartford Police Department, Hartford City Hall, the Hartford Post Office, and the Hartford Fire Department. Mike and Dan have stated that they intend to maintain the traditions and culture that have defined Dave's Lanes for decades.
