As an original vine-to-bottle winery, it is one of only a handful in the state with estate vineyards producing authentic Wisconsin wine. The winery’s philosophy centers on the belief that great wine begins in the vineyard, requiring grapes tended with care to withstand Wisconsin’s climate. They grow red wines using cold-hardy French-hybrid varieties such as Marechal Foch and Leon Millot, which are estate-grown on the property. For white wines, they source grapes from the Finger Lakes Region of New York, utilizing cold-climate varietals like Vidal Blanc, Seyval Blanc, and Geisenheim to complement their estate reds. All wines are produced on site. The property was originally a dairy farm designed in the early 1900s. The circa-1900 hung barn now houses the tasting room, gallery, gift shop, and indoor event spaces. A new 5,000-square-foot purpose-built winery replaced the original production facility in 2002.

Founded by Peter Botham, the business was led by Peter and his wife Sarah for nearly 35 years. In 2022, their son Mills joined as chief operating officer and assistant winemaker, bringing fresh energy to the family operation. The winery has earned more than 150 medals and accolades, including being the only Wisconsin winery to earn a double gold medal on an estate-grown red wine in international competition twice. Big Stuff Red won double gold at the San Francisco International Wine Competition, and the Uplands Reserve was named Wisconsin’s Best wine by Epicurious.com and Purewow.com.
