Scuttlebutt Brewing is a brewery in Everett, WA, with a taproom open to the public and a lineup of more than 20 hand-crafted ales and lagers. The brewery was founded by Phil and Cynthia "Scuttle" Bannan in 1995, growing out of a Father's Day homebrewing kit Phil received in 1990. After crowding the family kitchen, Phil and Cynthia drew up a business plan, scaled up from five-gallon buckets to a 20-barrel brewing system, and brewed their first beer on July 4, 1996. That first year the brewery produced three styles and finished with 170 barrels sold. After more than 25 years Scuttlebutt Brewing Company remains family owned and independent.
The brewing is led by Head Brewer Adam Chittick, with operations managed by Doug Tiede, taproom duties overseen by Stephanie Canton, and sales handled by Jeff Abandonato. Owners Phil Bannan Sr. and Phil Bannan Jr. remain involved in the business. Visitors can tour the brewery by appointment, and dock sales are available at the brewery. Table reservations are taken by phone at (425) 257-9316, and the brewery's online menu is updated monthly. The brewery takes its name from Cynthia's childhood nickname, originally given by her father, a nod to the news at Norfolk Naval Station that another baby was on the way.
The brewery is located on Craftsman Way. It holds a rating of 4.30 across customer reviews, reflecting a positive reception from the people who have tried its beers. With more than two decades of independent brewing on the same Everett operation, Scuttlebutt Brewing has built a broad lineup of ales and lagers rooted in the Pacific Northwest craft tradition.
