Lapp Metals is a family owned business that was started in 2011. It began small, manufacturing panels and trim exclusively for the family construction business, and as demand grew, more machines were slowly acquired. In 2014 the business moved from the family farm in Dillwyn to Industrial Park Road in Farmville, a move that provided more room to grow, easier access for customers buying products, and a much bigger workspace. Since then it has added more building products, new panels, and more machinery to speed up production. The metal is coated with Sherwin Williams paint that carries a 40 year warranty. Panels are made to order with no minimum or maximum length. Completed projects have used Tru-Loc and Snap-Loc panels in colors including Bright White, Black, Clay, Antique Bronze, Light Gray, Burgundy, and Charcoal, with matching trim and siding.

The shop sits on Industrial Park Road, about a tenth of a mile from the Waterworks Theatre and a short walk from Field of Dreams sports center. West Third Street is roughly two tenths of a mile away, Little Feats Preschool and Childcare is about seven tenths of a mile away, and Wilck's Lake is about nine tenths of a mile from the location. The Farmville-Prince Edward Public Library is about a mile away.

Lapp Metals is known for the positive rating customers have given it, reflecting satisfaction among those who have bought its panels and trim.
