Don's Automotive Repair

Don's Automotive Repair is an Auto Repair Shop in Austin, TX, located at 1636 S 1st St. Serving Asian and domestic vehicles since 1980, the shop employs specialized equipment including a smoke machine leak detector, two automated AC machines, and a third unit dedicated to Toyota Prius and Honda hybrids. The business works by appointment to minimize turnaround time and returns after-hours calls. It holds a rating of 4.50 based on customer reviews.

The shop emphasizes transparent pricing and honest diagnostics over low rates. It avoids charging full book time for overlapping labor operations, such as removing a timing belt to access a water pump, instead charging for the primary operation and adding minimal time for the second. This approach, combined with parts margins averaging 40 percent, allows customers to save money compared to shops that inflate labor charges or follow inflated dealership maintenance schedules. Don’s Automotive performs maintenance strictly according to the owner’s manual and refuses unnecessary services like tune-ups when records show none are due.

Customers pay in full at pickup using cash, checks, or major credit and debit cards. The shop does not offer customer-supplied parts to ensure quality and warranty coverage. Installed parts carry the manufacturer’s warranty, often one year or 12,000 miles, with some suppliers offering two years or 24,000 miles. Labor is guaranteed against workmanship errors for one year. The team also provides detailed educational guidance on vehicle issues, such as distinguishing between tire failures and suspension problems, and clarifying correct tire inflation pressures posted by the vehicle manufacturer.

Don’s Automotive Repair stands among the strongest auto repair shops in Austin, known for its long history and positive customer ratings.

The shop’s commitment to honest diagnostics and fair pricing makes it a reliable choice for Austin drivers seeking quality service for their Asian and domestic vehicles.
