Steve Dresser Golf Academy

Steve Dresser Golf Academy is a golf instructor in Pawleys Island, SC. Founded in 1989, it is the longest-running performance center in the Greater Pawleys Island Area, coaching golfers of all ages and abilities from beginners to tour professionals. The academy offers individual and group lessons, junior and adult clinics, golf school packages, club fitting and club sales, with combination instruction and golf round packages, stay-and-play options, and golf-school-only packages for those who do not need lodging. It holds a rating of 4.90 based on 46 reviews.

Instruction is led by PGA Class "A" coaches working at a 3:1 student-to-teacher ratio, with lead instructors who have earned awards from Golf Magazine, Golf Digest and the PGA. The academy operates indoor and outdoor hitting bays that open to the driving range, each equipped with a digital video unit for real-time feedback, and it is open year round. Its founder, a PGA Life Member, brought more than 40 years of full-time teaching experience to the practice areas and courses.

Club fitting is conducted outdoors on natural turf, where ball flight is seen in real time rather than through simulators. Fittings begin with an analysis of current equipment, shot patterns and goals, then move through launch conditions, shaft and clubhead combinations, length and lie, and set makeup. The academy is the only Titleist Advanced Fitting Center in SC and was named PING Fitter of the Year in 2015. It fits woods, hybrids and irons, with Vokey wedges and PING putters available, and PXG fittings are performed on site by PXG representatives.

The academy sits on Pinehurst Lane, about a tenth of a mile from Kings River Road and a third of a mile from Waccamaw High School. It is located at True Blue Golf Club, roughly half a mile from True Blue Golf Plantation and about the same distance from True Blue Garden Homes, with Caledonia Golf & Fish Club a short distance away. Its home courses, True Blue Golf Club and Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, are annually ranked among America's Top 100 Public Courses.

Students have access to both home courses, and the academy has built a strong local reputation reflected in consistently high customer ratings and a steady record of repeat and referred customers.
