Floyd's began when Mr. and Mrs. Felton Floyd of Nichols, SC built a summer home at North Myrtle Beach to accommodate themselves and their three children. The original structure followed a 1950s style, with two efficiency apartments on each floor separated by a breezeway and stairs. After retirement, the Floyds rented the four apartments through a local agency, then divided each of the four into eight and built kitchenettes into each breezeway. A small two-bedroom cottage was built for the maids who came with visiting families; that cottage is now a pet-friendly facility. Over the years porches were added upstairs and downstairs. The motel accommodates many families and events, and has become a special place for members of the Society of Stranders for weekend getaways and spring and fall SOS events.
Floyd's sits a half block from the ocean and three blocks from the shops and restaurants of North Myrtle Beach, offering a quieter, more personal beach experience away from the busier vacation spots.
The motel has built a solid reputation among the customers it has served across more than 70 years in business, with guests returning each season and generations of families making it part of their beach traditions.
