Multicultural Immersion Academy LLC – MIA

Multicultural Immersion Academy LLC - MIA is a school in North Charleston, SC. It operates as a learning center with a focus on teaching Spanish as a second language to children and families in the area. The center provides after-school childcare for children up to 12 years old and offers differentiated Spanish lessons designed for students of any age or ability. The program is built around three core areas of care and education, with seasonal activities designed to keep children engaged with a second language throughout the year.

The center's teaching approach is described as fun, creative, and adaptive, using immersive and flexible methods. Spanish is integrated across all programs, and themes rotate roughly every three months to build appreciation for the arts, culture, and the Spanish language. Lessons incorporate multiple methods, including games, projects, cooking, crafts, video songs, and hands-on activities. As children advance, instruction expands to include reading, writing, and grammar skills in Spanish, with each student moving at their own pace. The center also draws on Montessori-influenced educational design.

MIA was founded to help families interested in Spanish as a second language for their children. The team is led by Claudia, originally from Venezuela, a sociologist with a master's degree in public policy from Nottingham University who spent ten years teaching subjects including public policy in education, sociology, methodology, and history at universities and high schools before moving to the United States, where she began teaching Spanish to children in schools, homeschooling environments, and family settings. The staff also includes Paola, originally from South Africa, a sociologist with a PhD in education from England and an AMI Montessori diploma who supports curriculum design, educational methodology, and staff training; Carlos, a bilingual Venezuelan accountant with a master's in public administration who coordinates office operations; Renata, who assists across programs and with public relations; and Patricia, who handles social media publishing and photography. The center is located on Remount Rd in North Charleston.
