EVO Pizzeria is a pizza restaurant in North Charleston, SC. Founded in 2007 by Matt McIntosh and Ricky Hacker, the restaurant operates as a wood-fired pizza shop focused on local and regional ingredients, served on a first-come, first-serve basis with no reservations. EVO holds a rating of 4.60 based on 2106 reviews, making it one of the most reviewed restaurants in the Park Circle area.
The restaurant grew out of a partnership that began in 2003, when Matt and Ricky met while working in the kitchen at FIG in downtown Charleston. The pair spent roughly a year shaping the concept for a wood-fired pizza business built around local sourcing. In 2005 they launched a mobile wood-fired pizza oven for catering, and after strong demand they opened the brick-and-mortar location on East Montague Avenue in 2007. Matt began his culinary career at Blossom Cafe in 1998, later served as Head Artisan Baker at Normandy Farms, graduated Cum Laude from Johnson and Wales, helped start Slow Food Charleston, and studied wood-fired oven building under Alan Scott. Ricky graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in 2001 and joined FIG as Sous Chef in 2003, where he and Matt developed the EVO concept.
EVO is located on East Montague Avenue, within steps of the Welcome to Park Circle public artwork and the Park Circle neighborhood, and a short walk from Cooper River Center for Advanced Studies, North Charleston High School, Triangle Park, and the Garco Mill historic building.
With more than two thousand reviews behind it, EVO Pizzeria has built a steady reputation in North Charleston through its wood-fired cooking and long-standing ties to local growers and purveyers across the Lowcountry.
