Palmetto Christian Academy

Palmetto Christian Academy is a school in Mt Pleasant, SC, located on Egypt Rd. PCA serves more than 780 students in Preschool through 12th grade and offers a college preparatory program that includes core classes at College Preparatory, Honors, and Advanced Placement levels, along with the option to earn dual credits. The school also runs a preschool and lower school for children from 18 months through elementary grades, and its admissions process requires at least one parent to profess faith in Jesus Christ and for families to regularly attend a local church. Prospective families can tour the campus, meet faculty and staff, and explore the curriculum through scheduled Open House Events. Founded in 1992 as a ministry of East Cooper Baptist Church, PCA opened that fall with 3 teachers and 25 students in first through fourth grade. The school grew to 170 students in grades K-8 by 2001, added its first 9th-grade class of sixteen students in 2005, and saw its first graduating class of 16 students cross the stage in 2009. In addition to academics, PCA fields athletics teams that compete for region, district, and state championships and offers a broad fine arts program. The 2021 opening of the Student Life Center added 44,000 square feet of space, including two fully equipped science labs, a technology classroom, collaborative classrooms, and a gymnasium seating more than 1,000 fans. Lisa Shimakonis serves as Director of Admissions, and JD Zubia serves as Headmaster. The campus sits on Egypt Rd, about a third of a mile from the Richard L. Jones Center and Jimmy Seignious Memorial Fields, and roughly a third of a mile from Mount Pleasant Fire Department Station 2. Long Point Road is about six-tenths of a mile away, and the SeaCoast Community Center is within roughly eight-tenths of a mile. After nearly three decades of growth from its first class of 25 students, PCA now educates more than 780 students in Mt Pleasant through a biblically-based, college preparatory program that places a rigorous classical curriculum alongside competitive athletics and the fine arts.
