Art Connects Us Art School and Art Therapy

Art Connects Us Art School and Art Therapy is a painting and art therapy practice in Mt Pleasant, SC. It provides art therapy and art instruction for children, adolescents, and adults, working with grief, trauma, depression, anxiety, and personal growth. The practice is led by a board-certified registered art therapist, the highest credential awarded by the American Art Therapy Association, with more than thirty years of experience. The therapist has been painting since the age of twelve, earned a BA in Studio Art from the College of Charleston, and began a nursing career at MUSC before returning to art. It holds a rating of 5.00 from 11 reviews.

The practice approaches art therapy as a way to reach what words alone cannot. Creating art with a trained therapist allows clients to express suppressed pain, fear, and guilt while remaining in control of the process, and the ability to draw is not required. Sessions address children working through sadness, anger, grief, and loss, including children who cannot speak directly about what frightens them and instead give it form in clay or paint. Adolescents use the creative process to confront depressive thoughts, rebuild self-worth, and work through substance use and difficult social situations. Adults use artmaking to give shape to worry and grief, to surface family issues, and to explore personal qualities. The practice also describes how creating art engages the body's own chemistry, lowering stress hormones and building new neural pathways.

The practice sits on Simmons St, about a tenth of a mile from Coleman Boulevard, the neighborhood of Sunset Farms, and "The Kings Highway" memorial. The Mount Pleasant Farmers Market is roughly two tenths of a mile away, and the Charleston County Public Library Village Branch is about the same distance.

Art Connects Us has built a solid reputation among the customers it has served, reflected in a 5.00 rating across 11 reviews.
