Founded by Kevin and Rebecca Osborn, the distillery began as a dream to create small production craft spirits using locally sourced ingredients that reflect local culture. The couple met at Michigan State University and lived in seven states over 25 years of marriage. Kevin began brewing beer as a hobbyist and later learned winemaking in California. After twenty-six years as a business executive, he pursued this dream with Rebecca. With family in the Carolinas, they chose this location for its favorable business climate. All grains are received directly from local farms, ensuring they are fresh, organic, and locally grown. Milled grains are added to filtered water in a steam heated Mash Tun. The grains cook for several hours as heat and enzymes convert starch to sugar. The mash is cooled and transferred to fermenters where yeast is pitched. Temperature is automatically controlled to optimize fermentation. The Mash Tun and Fermenters each have a 500 gallon capacity, allowing for small batch production. The facility includes a 3000 square foot tasting room that can accommodate up to 200 guests, as well as a 550 square foot hidden speakeasy for smaller groups of up to 17 guests. These spaces are available for private events such as weddings, rehearsal dinners, and business gatherings. Twelve 33 Distillery holds a rating of 4.90 based on 489 reviews.
