Charleston Woodwork Creations

Charleston Woodwork Creations is a contractor in Johns Island, SC, specializing in custom cabinetry, millwork, and fine wood furniture. The studio handles design, fabrication and assembly, finishing, and installation in-house, which shortens lead times and keeps communication within one team. Projects range from new construction and gut renovations to single-room built-ins: walk-in closets, media storage around a television, wet bars with angled wine shelves and an under-counter beverage refrigerator, coffee bars with pocket doors, Murphy beds for home offices, and linen towers beside bathroom vanities. The team also builds dining tables, freestanding cabinets, and dressers from hardwoods sourced across the Southeast, including white oak in quarter-sawn and rift-sawn cuts, red oak, maple in figured, curly, birds-eye, and ambrosia varieties, and walnut. Finishes include durable lacquer, among them high-gloss work.

Charleston Woodwork Creations was born out of a love for cabinetry and fine woodworking, and its core team of artisans brings a multi-disciplinary approach to each project. Founder and head craftsman Mike has more than 20 years of experience across roofing, tile, finish carpentry, build carpentry, and general construction, with over 15 years in custom cabinetmaking and 10 years in fine woodworking. Justin, his first mate, is a medical doctor licensed to practice in SC who took up carpentry five years ago. Lead designer Rebecca became a National Kitchen & Bath Association certified designer and worked for interior designers before branching off on her own. The shop intern, Christina, studied economics at Stanford and attended business school at Wharton.

The shop sits on Maybank Highway, about half a mile from Saint Johns Fire District Station 1 and roughly a mile from Whitney Lake and the Brownswood Place neighborhood.

Clients describe Mike and his team as master craftsmen with attention to detail, workmanship, and professionalism, and repeat customers return for multiple projects.
