John Newkirk is an Upstate native who graduated from Riverside High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of New Mexico before attending the University of SC School of Law. He practiced law in Greenville County for over 20 years and served for several years as a prosecutor in the Solicitor’s office of Greenville County. During his tenure at the Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor’s Office, he handled thousands of criminal cases, ranging from DUI and reckless homicide to murder. He was assigned to both the traffic unit, prosecuting offenses like driving under suspension and habitual traffic offender charges, and the drug unit, handling possession, distribution, and manufacturing cases, including those involving clandestine methamphetamine labs.
