Buncombe Street Child Development Center

Buncombe Street Child Development Center is a child care agency in Greenville, SC. The center provides full-day, year-round care for children ranging from six-week-old infants through elementary school-age students, and it serves families in and near downtown Greenville. Programs include infant and toddler classrooms, 2K, 3K, and 4K classes, an afterschool program for students in K5 through fifth grade, and an annual summer camp called Camp OASIS for rising K5 through second grade students. Hours of operation run from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, and tours are typically held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM. The center operates within Buncombe Street Methodist Church and draws on the Mother Goose curriculum as a theme-based guide for its teachers. Activities are planned to support the spiritual, physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development of each child. Camp OASIS is built around outdoor exploration, the arts, acts of service, creativity and imagination, and spiritual growth. The afterschool program picks students up from schools near downtown Greenville, and the new school year begins on the Tuesday after Memorial Day. The center is co-directed by Wanda Arnold and Brittany Gehrt as part of the church's staff team. The center is located at 200 Buncombe Street, with Buncombe Street itself just outside and College Street a short walk away. Within a tenth of a mile, families will find the Sigal Music Museum, the Charles E. Daniel Theatre, the Greenville County Library, and the General Nathanael Greene public artwork. The center has served Greenville families as part of a church campus that has stood on Buncombe Street since the nineteenth century, growing out of the church's long-running kindergarten program into the year-round child development center families use today.
