SC Asphalt Pavement Association

SC Asphalt Pavement Association is an Association / Organization in Columbia, SC. The non-profit trade association represents asphalt pavement producers in SC, as well as a wide range of industry suppliers. These members include suppliers of aggregate, liquid asphalt, and emulsions; suppliers of additives, truck bed release agents, and biodegradable extraction solvents; asphalt milling and recycling companies; certified public accounting firms; engineering and testing firms; equipment dealers; insurance brokers; natural gas suppliers; surety bond agencies; traffic control and pavement marking suppliers; and transport providers.

The association was founded on November 2, 1966, when ten asphalt plant mix producers petitioned O. Frank Thornton, then Secretary of State for SC, for an eleemosynary corporation charter. Its mission is to protect, promote, and advance the progress, interest, and welfare of producers of plant mixed asphalt paving materials. SCAPA encourages the highest standards of business ethics and workmanship, fosters cooperation between producers and industry partners, and facilitates the discussion and coordination of solutions to problems of common interest. The organization participates in various research and educational programs to develop the best products, new paving techniques, and the highest quality of workmanship.

Producer member-firms take pride in their ability to satisfy the rigid requirements set by the S.C. Department of Transportation, Corps of Engineers, Naval Facilities Engineering Command, the Federal Aviation Administration, and engineers and architects engaged in private practice. SCAPA works and partners closely with these agencies to ensure quality products on the roads for citizens of SC. Additionally, the association partners with the National Asphalt Pavement Association, the Asphalt Pavement Alliance, and the Asphalt Institute to enhance the quality of asphalt pavement and promote it as the pavement of choice for roads.

The team supporting the members and mission includes Executive Director Jayson R. Jordan, P.E., MBA, CAE; Technical Director Cliff Selkinghaus; and Associate Director Casey Clyburn. The association hosts events such as the Winter Conference and the Fall Member Dinner to facilitate member engagement.
