RB Top Chef

RB Top Chef is a caterer in Columbia, SC, operating a mobile kitchen and catering service across SC, North Carolina and Georgia. The truck is a fully stocked restaurant on wheels with ovens, saute stations and coolers, staffed to cook made-to-order food at events. The menu includes chicken wings, chicken tenders, cheeseburgers, corn dogs, fried Cajun turkey wings, and a seafood platter combining A-1 select butterfly shrimp and tilapia. Service can be vended from the truck or set up as a buffet or family-style dinner at a location of the customer's choosing, and party platters and box lunch delivery are available. The team can plan or customize a menu, adjusting it by audience - pasta, chicken salad, tuna salad, turkey wings and dirty rice for school events, for example. Office parties, company picnics, weddings and small gatherings are among the events served.

RB Top Chef is owned and operated by Ronald Blackwell, a Columbia native who started the business in 2010. He bought a truck in Orlando, Florida, and named the business while watching Iron Chef. His cooking began at home helping his mother prepare meals, and his professional start came in the 10th grade at the Market Restaurant in downtown Columbia, where the owner taught him kitchen work. At the 15th Annual Black Expo, held May 19, 2013, at the Colonial Life Arena on the University of SC campus, RB Top Chef won the top prize in the Black Taste of Columbia competition against 12 other vendors, after winning top prize for first-time vendor the previous year. For that event the menu included barbeque pulled pork and pulled chicken on wheat bread, and pulled chicken and pulled pork on a wheat roll with a savory sauce, dirty rice and ground turkey.

The business sits on Woodvale Circle, about half a mile from Fairfield Road and Sharpe Road Park, and roughly a mile from the Belmont neighborhood, Crane Creek Community Center, North Main Street and Crane Creek School.

RB Top Chef brings a competition-winning Columbia kitchen to events across three states, cooking the fried Cajun turkey wings and made-to-order plates that earned it top honors at the Black Expo.
