In 1998, Gene and his three brothers, Allen, Jerry, and Ricky, opened Antley’s BBQ in Orangeburg. Gene was a running back for the SC Gamecocks in the early 1970s, and his football friends encouraged him to open a barbecue restaurant in Columbia. In 2002, Gene leased and eventually bought the building where the restaurant operates today. His business partner, Becky Headden, helped with the restaurant for many years.
