Epworth Children's Home

Epworth Children's Home is a community center in Columbia, SC, providing residential cottages, community foster homes, early intervention services, and family care programs for children, youth, and families. Its residential program serves youth ages 12 to 18 who have experienced trauma or instability, including grief, loss, neglect, homelessness, family crisis, or abuse, through individual and family counseling, life skills development, academic support, and spiritual mentorship. Epworth's mission to provide help and healing to children began in 1896, and it has nurtured faith and hope in children and families for 130 years. Its Center for Counseling serves children, teens, and adults at three locations across the Midlands, Lowcountry, and Upstate, with licensed counselors trained in modalities including Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and accepts major insurance along with sliding scale and private pay options. The Family Resource Center serves families throughout Richland County with food, clothing, diapers, and hygiene items, and assistance with benefits enrollment including SNAP and Medicaid, and is a member of the Children's Trust of SC Family Resource Center Network. Early intervention programs include a preschool that has served families for over 45 years on the Millwood Campus for children ages 1 to 5, and a home-based program for children ages 0 to 5 with developmental delays and disabilities. Circle of Parents groups offer caregiver-led support for anyone in a parenting role.

The home sits on Millwood Avenue, about a third of a mile from the Melrose Heights neighborhood and the Early Columbia Racetrack memorial, and roughly 0.4 miles from Richland Library Wheatley, The Forum, and the Shandon memorial.
