Theodora Park is a park in Charleston, SC, located in the Ansonborough neighborhood. It was dedicated on June 5, 2015, transforming a previously neglected public space into an urban oasis. The park was envisioned by David Rawle in honor of his mother, Theodora C. Rawle, and was created through collaboration with the City of Charleston and the Charleston Parks Conservancy. The landscape design by Sheila Wertimer features local staples such as live oaks, magnolias, palmettos, and azaleas. The park’s centerpiece is a 32-ft.-long fountain pool adorned with 350 handmade tiles created by ceramicist Paul Heroux. A wrought-iron gate forged by master Philip Simmons serves as an artistic element, while benches designed for New York City’s The Battery provide seating. Visitors can utilize moveable tables and chairs, and the park features a basket-weave brick pattern and subtle landscape lighting. Theodora Park is situated near the Gaillard, offering a space for residents and visitors to rest and enjoy the integration of nature and art.
