An Order Commencing Liquidation Proceedings was entered for Oceanus Insurance Company by the Court of Common Pleas, Fifth Judicial Circuit Richland County, SC, on September 21, 2017. Raymond G. Farmer, as Director of the SC Department of Insurance, and his successors in office were appointed Liquidator, and Michael J. FitzGibbons of FitzGibbons and Company, Inc. was designated Special Deputy Liquidator.

Under the liquidation order, all policies in effect at the time the order was issued continued in force only for the lesser of thirty days from the date of entry of the liquidation order (October 21, 2017), the expiration of the policy coverage, the date the insured replaced the coverage with equivalent insurance in another insurer or otherwise terminated the policy, or the date the Liquidator effected a transfer of the policy obligation under SC Code of Laws 38-27-400. Oceanus Insurance no longer defends or pays for the defense of its insureds, so any insured in that situation should arrange to employ independent counsel to defend against legal action that would otherwise be covered under an Oceanus policy.

All persons who may have claims against Oceanus Insurance Company must file a verified original Proof of Claim. The deadline for filing claims was 5:00 p.m. EDT on March 20, 2018. Proofs of Claim for the liquidation should be sent to the Administration Office in Scottsdale, Arizona.
