Melissa Altman, RN, CFMP, CCWFN is a nutritionist in Charleston, SC. She is a Registered Nurse, a Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner, a Certified Clinical Whole Foods Nutritionist, and a certified Holistic Health Coach who works with clients seeking to address the root causes of chronic health concerns rather than simply manage symptoms.

Melissa earned her nursing degree from the University of SC and has been a Registered Nurse since 1991. She became certified as a Holistic Health Coach through Health Coach Institute in 2017, completed her Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner training through Functional Medicine University in 2018, and finished her Certified Clinical Whole Foods Nutrition studies through the Institute of Food, Nutrition and Health in 2021. Her path into functional medicine began after she developed a collection of symptoms in 2011 that conventional medicine could not diagnose. After eventually being diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis by Dr. Patrick Lovegrove, she transitioned to natural treatments, weaned off all medications, and has used supplements, natural hormones, and essential oils to maintain her health since.

Her practice focuses on gut imbalances, autoimmune disorders, metabolic dysfunction, weight loss, nutritional deficiencies, mood disorders, blood sugar dysregulation, toxic burden overload, food allergies and sensitivities, and leaky gut. Her approach is patient-centered and individualized, using in-depth discussions of dietary and lifestyle habits, comprehensive lab testing, and other diagnostic tools to identify root causes, then building personalized protocols that may include dietary changes, supplements, and other supportive interventions.

Her stated special interests include autoimmune disorders, metabolic imbalances, recovering from chronic illnesses, aging well, and helping clients avoid the pitfalls of the conventional healthcare model. She also enjoys public speaking about natural health initiatives and educating children on better lifestyle choices.
