Mason Preparatory School

Mason Preparatory School is a private educational institution in Charleston, SC. It operates as an independent Pre-K-8 school designed to educate the whole child, focusing on strong academics alongside intentional character development and community building. The school’s approach is built around its "3 Cs": Curiosity, Character, and Community. Students are encouraged to ask questions, show kindness, and engage in critical thinking, supported by an integrated Social Emotional Learning program. The curriculum emphasizes respect, integrity, and personal responsibility, preparing students for secondary education and life beyond school.

The school maintains small class sizes to ensure every student is known and supported as an individual. Faculty work closely with parents as partners, addressing specific academic needs and personal challenges. Students participate in community service projects that go beyond simple donations, learning about local issues and how nonprofits provide help. The Pre-K-8 model is intentional, allowing childhood to last a little longer and providing middle schoolers with more leadership opportunities without the pressure of high school. Technology is used as a tool rather than a teacher, ensuring students become responsible users while core educational elements remain central. Alumni have gone on to institutions such as Clemson Honors College, Porter-Gaud, and Wake Forest University, citing the strong academic foundation and social skills developed at Mason Prep as key to their success in high school and college.

The school is located on Halsey Blvd in the Halsey Park neighborhood. It sits about a tenth of a mile from Alberta Long Lake Park and Alberta Sottile Long Lake. The Governor Thomas Bennett House Marker is located about two tenths of a mile away. Lockwood Drive is also nearby, approximately a tenth of a mile from the campus.

As a small, independent school in Charleston, Mason Preparatory School focuses on creating a tight-knit environment where students build personal connections with peers and staff. The school’s emphasis on kindness, respect, and academic rigor provides a foundation that alumni describe as essential for their continued success in higher education.
