He graduated from the College of Charleston in 1984 with a degree in Political Science after serving in the Air Force from 1976 to 1980. He earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of SC School of Law in 1987. Prior to private practice, he served as an Assistant Solicitor for the 9th Judicial Circuit. He has served as a Municipal Judge since 1990, previously for the City of Hanahan and the Town of Mt. Pleasant, and currently as Chief Municipal Judge for the Town of Sullivan's Island. He is an adjunct professor at the College of Charleston, teaching Business Law. He is a member of the Charleston County Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the SC Bar Association, the SC Trial Lawyers Association, The Association of Trial Lawyers of America, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, American Judges Association, and SC Summary Court Judges Association.
