Hartley House is also known as the Bond-Bates-Hartley House, one of the oldest homes in Lexington County. The Greek Revival upcountry farmhouse was built around 1790 by John Pearson Bond and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It remained a private residence of the Bond, Bates and Hartley families until 2015. The home once served as a post office and stage coach stop before Batesburg was founded, and George Washington was rumored to be a guest of John Pearson Bond during his 1791 political tour.
