Hooper Sr. came to Harrisburg from Philadelphia, where local media recognized him for bringing advanced embalming techniques, and founded Hooper Funeral Service at 604 Forster Street. After his death, his daughter Millicent Hooper continued the business at the age of twenty-three and changed its name to Hooper Memorial Home. She ran it for more than sixty years, became the youngest person to pass the Pennsylvania State Board of Funeral Directors examination, served as the first female president of the United Cerebral Palsy Center of Camp Hill, and built a second location at 1416 Cumberland Street after the State used eminent domain to create parking at the Forster Street site.
