They were integral members of the business community as founders of the City Brewing Company, Ferneding-Heymann Cigar Company, Fourth National Bank, The Union Safe and Deposit & Trust Company, the Dayton and Xenia Railway Company, and Handy Man Hardware. Clement Ferneding was the driving force to eliminate dangerous railroad crossings by elevating the railroad tracks within the city of Dayton. Harry Ferneding served as judge of the court of appeals for the State of Ohio. Harry Ferneding fought in the Spanish-American War as an officer with the U.S. Calvary. His sons, John C. and Thomas C. Ferneding, fought in World War II both as Lieutenant Commanders in the Navy.
