Coshocton County Animal Shelter & HATA

Coshocton County Animal Shelter & HATA is an animal shelter and humane society in Coshocton, Ohio. The organization operates as the last remaining open admission shelter to its county in the state of Ohio, meaning its door is always open to animals in need, including owner surrenders from Coshocton County. It contracts with the county to operate the pound, admitting more than 1,000 stray and owner surrender animals each year, and has served animals in need for over 55 years. The shelter describes itself as a small, rural, full service operation providing compassionate care and assistance programs to hundreds of animals annually. It holds a rating of 4.50 from the customers who have reviewed it.

The shelter's services include adoption and foster programs and low cost spay and neuter clinics open to dogs and cats from all counties. It works with a low cost spay and neuter transport provider, and appointments for that transport are scheduled by phone. The shelter operates by appointment daily for owners redeeming dogs and cats that entered as stray drop offs, and all intakes are by appointment as well. Stray dogs are held the required 72 hours. The organization states that it is not affiliated with or connected to any other rescue or organization in the county, and that it is not the Coshocton County Humane Society; it identifies itself as its own humane society and animal shelter, established in 1967. The dog warden is a separate, county employed office that delivers strays and surrenders to the facility.

The shelter sits on Township Road 164, about 0.7 miles from Cambridge Road. Coshocton High School and Coshocton Elementary School are each roughly 1.4 miles away, Hardscrabble Hill is about 1.5 miles away, and Hall Park and Pleasant Valley School are each around 1.9 miles from the site.

Its long record of open admission service and the positive rating it has earned from reviewers reflect an organization that area residents have relied on for animal care for more than five decades.
