Opened in August of 2015, Coffee Underground was created as an outreach ministry to reach college students and young adults in the Ohio State University off campus area. Initially constrained by an elementary school, Tree of Life, that used to be located in the building, it expanded its hours to include mornings into evenings after the pandemic. The organization aims to be a safe space for the community to come together for fellowship, studying, or socializing. Sustainability is a goal, with fully compostable cups, straws, and portion cups. Several clubs and groups regularly meet here for game nights, book clubs, and study sessions.

The business holds a strong local reputation, reflected in consistently high customer ratings and an established track record built on a large base of customer reviews.

Coffee Underground provides a community-focused environment for Columbus residents and students to gather, study, and enjoy locally roasted coffee.
