Established in 1935 by Albert and Theresa Klingshirn, the operation began as a third-generation family farm and winery located near the shores of Lake Erie. Initial commercial production started in the early 1930s with a surplus grape crop, leading Albert to produce wine in twenty 50-gallon wooden barrels within his home cellar. Five years later, in 1940, Albert constructed the original winery just west of his residence. This first structure featured a basement for fermentation tanks and two hundred 50-gallon wooden barrels, alongside a small ground-level room used for bottling, storage, and retail sales.

Allan Klingshirn purchased the farm and winery in 1955, expanding the product line and replacing small barrels with larger wooden casks and stainless-steel tanks. In 1978, Allan oversaw an expansion that increased the winery's size fourfold, creating a facility large enough to house all production facilities and an expanded retail sales room. Lee Klingshirn, the third-generation operator, returned from college in 1985 to take over the business. He graduated from Ohio State University in 1986 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Viticulture and Enology and became the primary winemaker. By 2002, another family of Klingshirns began operating the winery.

The estate vineyards, initially planted with Concord grapes, have produced local favorites like Concord, Niagara, and Pink Catawba for the first fifty years. Additional vineyards established in the 1980s now yield Vidal Blanc, Chambourcin, Riesling, Chardonn Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Grigio, and Delaware. The winery recently released estate-grown Marquette Semi-Dry to celebrate its 90th anniversary, alongside new 2025 blends such as Country Blush and Golden Chablis, which utilize hybrid varieties like Prairie Star and Vidal Blanc. The business emphasizes environmental stewardship through an intelligent sprayer program.
