The business traces its origins to the mid-1920s when Italian immigrant Frank DeVitis arrived in the United States and later partnered in Mass Market Produce in downtown Akron. In the early 1950s, Frank opened Frank's Fruits & Vegetables in a converted gas station on East Tallmadge Avenue, joined by his 20-year-old son Angelo. By 1960, the operation moved to 560 East Tallmadge Avenue and was renamed DeVitis & Sons Italian Food & Produce, Inc., expanding into a full-scale Italian grocery store with meat and produce departments. Following Frank's death in 1966, his twin sons David and Robert took over operations, later joined by siblings Laura and Tony. Nicholas joined the fourth generation in 2005, and the family continues to operate the market using traditional techniques and recipes.

The DeVitis family produces more than 32 tons of homemade Italian sausage annually, available in regular, hot, and Sicilian varieties, using the same methods established decades ago. The market sources high-quality ingredients from around the world to maintain authentic Italian flavors and provides customer service from knowledgeable, caring personnel. DeVitis Italian Market operates Monday through Saturday from 9 AM to 6 PM, and on Sundays from 9 AM to 1 PM.

DeVitis Italian Market maintains a strong local reputation, reflected in consistently high customer ratings and an established track record built on a large base of customer reviews.

The DeVitis family’s multi-generational commitment to authentic Italian food and community service makes DeVitis Italian Market a trusted choice for catering and groceries in Akron.
