Smithtown Christian School is a religious school in Smithtown, NY. For over 40 years, it has provided faith-based, academically rigorous education for students in grades PreK through 12th, serving families who share its Christian mission. Smithtown Christian School is a ministry of Smithtown Gospel Tabernacle and opened in 1978 at the former Sweetbriar Elementary School, an excessed Smithtown Public School building that had been purchased by the church. That first year, three teachers taught multi-aged classes to 59 students in grades K-5. By the next year, enrollment had doubled, and by 1985, the school had over 300 students in grades K-9, with more in the preschool and daycare programs. The school's mission is to equip students to think Biblically, lead with integrity, and serve with purpose, fostering spiritual growth and academic excellence in a caring Christian community. The elementary Bible curriculum uses Purposeful Design for Kindergarten through Grade 3 and Answers in Genesis for Grades 4-5, while reading, writing, and math curricula draw on materials from A Beka, Reading Street by Scott Foresman, Bob Jones University Press, and the Fountas and Pinnell benchmarking assessment system. The Pre-K program offers 3-day morning, 3-day full day, and 5-day full day options for 4-year-olds, with the academic aim of preparing students for Kindergarten at the school. The school is located at 1 Higbie Dr in Smithtown, on the 15-acre Higbie Drive campus that was purchased with the intention of moving all church and school operations to that one location. The campus buildings were connected through a building program completed in 1983, which also added a church sanctuary and more classrooms. The school's graduates consistently excel in college and beyond, demonstrating strong leadership skills, academic prowess, and a commitment to service, a testament to its dedicated faculty and enriching curriculum. Its admissions process includes entrance testing and an interview, and the school admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally made available to students at the school.
