Its roots trace back to two separate Olean-area firms. The Halwig Funeral Home opened in Olean in 1919 and remained under Halwig family ownership until 1977. The other lineage runs through the E. C. Hogan Funeral Home, Inc., established in 1946, which was purchased by R. Dennis Casey and his brother-in-law Robert T. Johnson in 1978 and later renamed R. Dennis Casey Funeral Home. After Jamestown Community College acquired the Hamilton Street building and land in 2000, the two firms merged in October 2000 into the current operation, consolidating the former Olean and Allegany locations into one modern building with ample parking. The staff operates under the motto "Sincere and Faithful Service," and owners Dennis Casey and Kenneth M. Hartle are both licensed funeral directors. Casey is a third-generation Olean native and a graduate of the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science, while Hartle is a Bradford, Pennsylvania native and a 1989 graduate of Simmons Institute of Funeral Service in Syracuse.
