The property sits near the former site of Stella Mines, once one of the largest pyrite mines in the United States, and the creek itself takes its name from the early practice of tanning cowhide along its banks. The land served as a dairy farm for decades before being purchased by Tom and Pamela Jasikoff in 1991, who raised their family of five children there and used the property as a hobby farm. Tom, a wildlife biologist, transformed the once bare hay pastures into mowed trails winding through tranquil ponds and wetlands. After retiring in 2018, he continued the work of restoring the land into the nature sanctuary it is today. That same summer, the barn opened for its first wedding, the marriage of the Jasikoffs' daughter. Tom and Pam also completed a back addition to the farmhouse and extensive structural work on the barn. Events are hosted Friday through Sunday from 9:00 am to 11:00 pm.
