P.S. 034 Franklin D. Roosevelt

P.S. 034 Franklin D. Roosevelt is a middle school in New York, NY, serving students from 3K through 8th grade. The school's mission is to provide a learning environment that prioritizes grade level, cross-curricular learning experiences in partnership with renowned art organizations, strengthening students' content knowledge, academic skills, and artistic abilities through a student-centered, creative process. Its vision centers on an art integration approach to teaching and learning, helping students develop a love of learning by making deeper connections to academic content while meeting grade level standards and skills.

The school has developed a vision for its community centered on art integration, partnering with organizations such as Alvin Ailey, Carnegie Hall, and the NY Historical Society to develop units of study. Through these partnerships, students construct and demonstrate academic understanding through an art form, engaging in a creative process that connects the art form and another subject area while meeting evolving objectives in both.

Out-of-classroom roles include physical education and health, elementary science and health, music, and visual arts, along with paraprofessionals supporting classrooms throughout the building.

P.S. 034 Franklin D. Roosevelt sits on East 12th Street, about a tenth of a mile from Dry Dock Playground and roughly the same distance from Avenue C. East 14th Street and the Social Security Administration office are each about two tenths of a mile away.
