Long Island Tutoring Service of Merrick

Long Island Tutoring Service of Merrick is a tutoring service in Merrick, NY. It provides tutoring to students of all ages and grade levels, offering private tutoring, small group tutoring, and small classes. Sessions can take place at the center, online, or in a student's home. The service covers all academic subjects at all levels, including math, English and writing, science, and social studies, along with test preparation. It holds a rating of 5.00 from the customers who have reviewed it.

Under the guidance of Director Jo-Ann Annunziato, MS Ed., students receive an individualized and structured plan. The approach is not one size fits all: tutoring programs account for each student's needs and specific areas of strength and weakness. Learning plans consist of an initial evaluation, a carefully constructed plan for learning, and constant reassessment. Instructors use methods and strategies for test preparation and techniques to remediate language processing difficulties.

The service also runs TACHS prep crash courses, offered in person and virtually, which review the full exam for the Test for Admission into Catholic High Schools. Students learn test taking strategies and practice each section, with different materials used for each crash course, and may sign up for one or all sections. Summer classes for students entering kindergarten through eighth grade are offered in person only at the Massapequa location. Students work in small, age appropriate groups grouped by age and skill level, using research-based methods to improve phonological processing, sight word recognition, reading rate and fluency, reading and oral language comprehension, reasoning and critical thinking, and writing and math skills. Summer reading and math enrollment includes a comprehensive skills assessment and parent consultation.

Families have described improvements in SAT and ACT practice scores, rising test scores, college admission, and changes in reading habits after working with the service.

Long Island Tutoring Service of Merrick pairs individualized instruction with small group and classroom options, giving Merrick families a range of ways to support students from early reading through college entrance exams.
