The Harvey School

The Harvey School is a high school in Katonah, NY, located at 260 Jay St. The school provides a college preparatory education for students in grades 6 through 12, including a five-day boarding program for students in grades 9 through 12 that allows them to experience residential life during the week while maintaining family time on weekends. Founded in 1916 by Dr. Herbert Carter and his wife Mabel Carter, the school was named for Sir William Harvey, the physician who discovered the mechanics of blood circulation. The institution began as a residential school for boys in Hawthorne, New York, before moving to its current 125-acre hilltop campus in Katonah in 1959.

Dr. Paul Adler serves as the school’s 10th Head of School. He holds an Ed.D. and a Master’s degree in Education Leadership from Columbia University Teachers College, a Master’s degree in Mathematics Education from Harvard University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Quantitative Economics from Tufts University. The school’s curriculum includes English, science, history, math, languages, honors courses, and 14 AP courses. Incoming ninth graders participate in an immersive science program designed to inspire scientific inquiry. All middle school students are enrolled in a study skills program that meets multiple times each week to prepare them for high school.

The arts program offers more than 32 classes in fine arts, media arts, dance, music, and theater, including ceramics, graphic design, and visual arts. The award-winning robotics program teaches engineering, physics, electronics, mechanics, and computer programming, with opportunities for students to compete in local, national, and world competitions. The athletic program features 20 varsity teams, plus junior varsity and middle school teams, spanning 15 sports across the fall, winter, and spring seasons. Students come from more than 75 ZIP codes in New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey.

The Harvey School fosters a community where students are known by their teachers and encouraged to pursue their passions academically, artistically, and athletically. Graduates are accepted to and attend a wide range of private and public colleges and universities, with most attending their first-choice institution. The school maintains a not-for-profit status and is governed by a board of trustees.
