Bushido Karate Dojo

Bushido Karate Dojo is a martial arts school in Central Islip, New York. It teaches traditional martial arts to children, teens, and adults, from first-time beginners through advanced students. Instruction covers Tai Kempo karate, Iaido (Japanese sword) in the Muso Shinden Ryu style, Ninja Trix for ages 4 to 12, women's self-defense, and fitness classes including Zumba. Academic tutoring is also offered, along with community events, birthday parties, game nights, and camps. The dojo holds a rating of 5.00 from the families who have reviewed it.

The school has served the area since 1998 under owner and head master Kyoshi George Santiago, who has trained in martial arts since 1984 and has instructed students since 1998. He holds a 7th Degree Black Belt in Tai Kempo and a 4th Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, trains daily, and competes locally and internationally. He regularly trains with martial artists from across the United States and around the world, bringing new techniques and perspectives back to the dojo while keeping its traditional foundation. His own training began as a boy through a youth program at the P.A.L., inspired by the martial arts films he watched on Kung Fu Theater and by The Karate Kid in 1984.

The dojo sits on Connetquot Avenue, about a mile from Connetquot Elementary School, the Connetquot River, and Touro Law School. Marguerite Mulvey Elementary School is roughly 1.1 miles away, as is the Southern State Parkway, and West Brook is about 1.2 miles from the school.

Classes run Monday through Friday from 4:30pm to 9:00pm and Saturday from 8:00am to 1:00pm. The dojo's teaching emphasizes confidence, discipline, respect, and perseverance, with students progressing at their own pace in a family-oriented setting.
