Luria Academy of Brooklyn

Luria Academy of Brooklyn is an elementary school in Brooklyn, NY, founded in 2006 by a group of parents who set out to build a progressive educational environment offering a sophisticated Jewish education for their children. The school serves students across multiple levels, including primary, lower school, and upper school divisions, with admissions currently open for the 2027-2028 school year. Luria Academy runs a Montessori-based program that uses prepared classroom environments and hands-on materials to build independence and exploration across age groups, from toddlers through middle school. The school's approach to Judaic studies is grounded in Jewish law and tradition and taught in a way that encourages students to engage with traditional texts and modern ideas in dialogue with one another. Academic work draws on the New York State Common Core Learning Standards, LHILI Tanakh Standards, and ACTFL proficiency guidelines, with progress carefully tracked for each student. The entire community, including students, staff, and parents, operates under four commitments of unconditional respect: to be kind, curious, strong, and contributing. The school is also a community of families drawn from neighborhoods across Brooklyn and Manhattan, including Williamsburg, Clinton Hill, Crown Heights, Prospect Heights, Park Slope, and Flatbush. Recent Luria graduates have received acceptances to a range of competitive New York City high schools, including Abraham Joshua Heschel, Brooklyn Technical, Beacon, Edward R. Murrow, LaGuardia, Brooklyn Latin, the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts, and the Little Red School House Elisabeth Irwin High School, among others. The campus sits on St. Marks Avenue in the Prospect Heights neighborhood, just steps from the Prospect Heights Community Farm and around the corner from PS 9 Sarah Smith Garnet School and Vanderbilt Avenue. As a long-established progressive Jewish day school in Brooklyn, Luria Academy has spent nearly two decades building a program that blends Montessori methodology with rigorous Judaic studies, giving its graduates a strong academic foundation and the character to carry it forward.
