K9Key of Baldwin

K9Key of Baldwin is a dog training business in Baldwin, New York. It runs a five-week board and train dog school on Long Island, about an hour from New York City, and accepts a handful of dogs each month. The training covers puppies and everyday obedience as well as fear and aggression. Dogs come from Queens, Brooklyn, New York City, and Long Island. The business holds a rating of 4.90 from the customers who have reviewed it.

The team has been training dogs for three decades, and describes itself as a family operation rather than a franchise. Its experience includes competing in dog sports with dogs bred for intensity, which the team notes are harder to handle than the common household companion. Raising, breeding, and working with those dogs in a home setting has built a wide range of skill in reading dog behavior. Steve, the trainer, began learning to train and breed dogs as a child in Korea, where his father raised, trained, and competed dogs, and continued after the family moved to the United States. He handled and showed dogs from Korean Jindos to Pomeranians, and has since competed at high levels in the sport of Schutzhund (IGP) with German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois. He also specializes in handling and training Pit Bulls. His work spans basic to advanced obedience, protection training, sport and competition training, service work, movie work, and aggression issues.

Training is structured as an ongoing process rather than a one-time fix. Clients receive video footage and updates while their dog is boarded, and group sessions are available afterward so owners can reinforce what their dog has learned and build the skills to manage, walk, and reward it at home. The team also works with owners on the psychology behind their dog's behavior and how to change it.

The business sits on Jefferson Street, about 0.1 miles from the Baldwin Schools Administrative Offices and 0.2 miles from Baldwin Harbor. Meadow School is 0.3 miles away, as are Atlantic Avenue and Milburn Avenue, and Milburn Creek is about 0.6 miles from the location.

K9Key of Baldwin is known for the results its training has produced for clients and their dogs, a record reflected in its 4.90 rating from reviewers.
