Maple Crest Health Center is a nursing home in Omaha, NE, located at 2824 N 66th Ave. The facility provides skilled nursing, secure memory care, and restorative rehabilitation therapy to seniors in Omaha and the surrounding communities. Clinical services include intensive in-house physical, occupational, and speech therapies, alongside hospice and respite care. The center is 100% Medicare and Medicaid certified.
Founded in 1948 by Rev. R.E. Cody, the facility first opened as the Jonas Baptist Home in a residential house on North 31st Avenue. In 1959, it relocated to its present location on 2824 North 66th Avenue, formerly the site of the Hattie B. Munroe Children’s Home. Major expansions added two wings between 1965 and 1967, and created the East and West wings of Benson Terrace in 1974. The name changed to Maple Crest Care Center in 1976 to welcome seniors of all denominations. A chapel, funded largely by the Gangwish family, was added that same year. Subsequent additions include a solarium and dining area in 1994 and an extension to the Peterson lounge in 1997, both supported by Viola Chase. A new short-term rehabilitation center opened on the top floor in 2012, followed by a renovated and expanded memory care center on the lower level in 2015.
The community is located in the Benson neighborhood and offers amenities such as the Floretta Ward Tranquility Garden, secure outdoor courtyards, a resident aviary, a well-stocked library, a relaxing TV lounge, and a private family conference room. A full-time Chaplain serves residents in the on-site chapel. The rehabilitation approach utilizes an interdisciplinary team to develop individualized programs directed by a physician. Physical therapy helps regain strength and coordination, while occupational therapy assists with self-care tasks and ADLs. Speech therapy supports communication, chewing, and swallowing. Restorative nursing programs maintain functional abilities after active rehabilitation. Memory care areas are designed for residents with dementia or Alzheimer’s, featuring secure layouts and personalized care plans addressing emotional, spiritual, social, and physical needs.
