Founded in 1954 and headquartered in Grand Island, it operates as a Midwest design-build, general contracting, and construction management company. Its services cover design-build, design-bid-build, and construction management, and it works with both public and private clients across healthcare, commercial, industrial, manufacturing, religious and cultural, education, community, and specialty projects. Chief Construction specializes in design-build because it offers single-source responsibility, with one contract covering both design and construction and one entity managing subcontractors and material providers. The company states that inviting the owner to sit at the same table as the architect, project manager, estimators, and engineers drives collaboration and produces effective solutions, cost reduction, and solid timelines. Its design-bid-build work follows three phases: design, bidding, and construction, with the team reviewing design plans alongside the architect, coordinating construction phases against the design schedule, and selecting subcontractors with the owner based on quality and project bids. The company reports managing millions in construction volume each year and describes its team as committed to keeping projects on time and within budget. Completed work includes Prairie Commons Medical Office Building, Grand Island Regional Medical Center, Fountain Point, MCHI Clinic in Clay Center, Kelly Family Dentistry, The Village at Skyline Pines, Women's Health and Healing Center, Balance Mobility and Aquatic Center, Xpanxion, Pioneer Trail Flats, Amur Equipment Finance, Nebraska Truck Center, Pinnacle Bank, Heartland Public Shooting Park, Cline Williams, Autospa, and MCHI Thrift Shop. Additional offices are located in Kearney, Lincoln, Hastings, and North Platte.

Chief Construction carries a positive rating from the customers who have reviewed it, and its record of more than 500 completed projects since 1954 reflects a long tenure building in Grand Island and across the Midwest.
