Cary School of Music is a Music School in Morrisville, NC. Established in 1993, the school provides an accessible, affordable, and joyful environment for the study and performance of music for students of all ages and skill levels. The faculty works with individuals to develop specific musical skills and knowledge through a wide variety of classes and learning opportunities. Instruction is available for piano, guitar, strings, voice, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. Piano lessons combine technique, music theory, and performance opportunities for all stages of learning. Guitar instruction covers acoustic, electric, and bass guitar across multiple styles. String lessons include violin, viola, cello, and double bass using traditional and Suzuki methods. Voice lessons focus on technique and performance in pop, jazz, musical theater, and classical styles. Woodwind instruction supports flute, clarinet, saxophone, oboe, and bassoon students, often complementing school band success. Brass lessons provide personalized training in trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, and tuba. Percussion lessons are designed to develop technical ability and musical creativity for drums and other instruments. The school maintains a schedule with hours from 3 PM to 8 PM Monday through Thursday and 3 PM to 6 PM on Friday.

The teaching staff includes professionals with extensive educational and performance backgrounds. Philip van Lidth de Jeude, a Curtis Institute of Music and Manhattan School of Music alumnus, has taught voice and piano since July 2013 and previously performed with the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Tracy Heist, a UNC-Greensboro graduate, has taught piano since 2002 to students ranging from three to ninety years old. John Herrmann, a full-time piano instructor since 2005, serves as organist and Director of Music for St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Raleigh. Craig Wiggins holds degrees from The University of Tennessee and The University of Memphis and teaches guitar with a focus on classical and jazz styles. Kevin Yen holds a Master’s degree in Performance with a Suzuki Pedagogy emphasis from East Carolina University. Philip Scott has taught clarinet and saxophone for over twenty years and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Baldwin-Wallace University. Caresse Virnig, who holds degrees from UNC Chapel Hill and UNC Greensboro, is the principal chair of the Raleigh Symphony Orchestra and a Specialist in the 208th Army Reserve Band. Jaylan Glenn serves as Percussion Director for several high schools and is the Timpanist for the Raleigh Symphony Orchestra. Blake Young performs regularly at music festivals and brings professional experience to his percussion instruction.
